About US
How We Began
In 2005, Ms. Sheila Surujpaul stood at a crossroads with a piece of property she had repurchased in Industry, East Coast. She could have built a retirement home, created rental income for her later years, or done something totally unexpected.
Ms. Sheila always went for the unexpected. A pastor's wife for many years, she has always been eager and ready to help those in need. Known as "mama" to everyone she and her husband, Rev. Surujpaul, had the privilege of pastoring, countless ministers and professionals around the world recognize them for their outstanding service to God and humanity.
It was with this spirit of service and dedication to seeing people freed from sin and hopelessness that Ms. Sheila received a dream in her heart - to create a home where orphaned children could find love, safety, and a future filled with hope. And thus, Bless The Children Home was born.
The Surujpaul family rallied together and supported the dream that Ms. Sheila received about using her land to help children find refuge and help, raising them in the knowledge of God, just as she raised her own children. Rev. and Mrs. Surujpaul had successfully raised their three daughters and one son, as successful God-Fearing adults. Now it was time to help other children.
Beyond Guyana, the Surujpauls knew that God wanted them to help children and widows of the world. Before their passing in 2018, they were already personally supporting children in India.
Today, their four children have taken on the responsibility of the Bless The Children Home Organization, and they are forging ahead with helping children and widows in other counties around the world. In 2025, BTC added India and Kenya to their list of countries where children and widows are served with care and taught about the goodness of God.
